What is Data Communication?

Data communication is the exchange of data between devices by using the transmission medium. It can be accomplished through wired media, such as twisted pair cable or coaxial cable as well as wireless media such as optic fibers or radio waves. The data has to be encoded, encapsulated, and transmitted by the device transmitting it, before being decoded and removed from the device receiving it. This procedure is similar to the analog transmission process, however, it is more complicated and concentrates on binary data (1s & zeros).

To improve efficiency within an business, companies are utilizing data communication to share information more effectively with dispersed users. To match inventory to demand and reduce waste, an automotive manufacturer required data to 6’000 untrained spare parts dealers scattered. This required communication through a network not optimized for data transmission, and to use of a mobile application which was difficult for novice users to navigate.

Effective data communication starts with understanding your audience’s Homepage perspective on the data. It is the process of creating visuals that aid in the telling of the story and providing context-based information. It also involves articulating the data in a clear, concise narrative. It also involves tailoring the content to the particular audience according to their hierarchy, technical proficiency and interest level. In addition, it requires pushing creative boundaries to make data communication more memorable and memorable.
